We all have days when we are feeling less than stellar. I think that we can all agree…
Some days are fantastic! You seemingly float through your day and wrap up your evening feeling accomplished, happy and loved… and there are those “other” days. You know, the days where it seems as though nothing is going your way, you’re tired, impatient, sulky and just feel BLAH.
We all have those days and low moments that make us feel “BLAH” but I am writing this post as a gentle reminder that there is ALWAYS SOMETHING for which we can feel grateful.
These precious “somethings” can be small moments or everyday things that we foolishly take for granted. The wonderful thing is that if we take a moment to acknowledge these “sweet somethings” we become more appreciative and happy!
Here are a few things that we should all be thankful for…
Nature – Guys… We are living on a huge piece of rock that is crawling with fascinating creatures. That particular rock is floating within an ever expanding universe… and here we are existing! Just chillin’ in paradise with highly intelligent beings. The beauty of it all! We all should be grateful that we exist here and now… That we have fresh air to breathe into our lungs and clean water to drink… That there are summers, changing colored leaves, beaches, mountains, and animals great and small. Nature is astonishing and we are LUCKY to be a part of this miraculous world.
Our Bodies – Health is the greatest wealth! Be thankful for the heart inside your chest and its beating rhythm, the stomach that digests food into nutrients to feed your cells, and the eyes that allow you to see the world’s beauty. No matter its size or shape, we need to start appreciating our bodies and taking care of them in the best way that we can. Instead of looking in the mirror and picking apart your appearance, we should start appreciating what our bodies allow us to DO. For example, my long arms have given hugs to comfort loved ones, my strong legs have allowed me to dance across stages and walk through some pretty interesting places, my full cheeks have smiled at strangers and brightened their day… and all of that is something to be happy about. Thank you, Body, you’re awesome!
Support System – It is a beautiful thing to have people who love and support you and all of your quirkiness wonder! Whether it is your family, friends, or co-workers, your support system acts as your cheerleading squad, teammates and soundboard. Be grateful that there are awesome people in the world rooting for you and looking out for your best interest.
Opportunity – We all have the opportunity to succeed and to pursue our passions! We can dream big and work hard to accomplish those dreams. We can pursue higher education, learn new skills, and change other people’s lives! We should all be thankful that we have the incredible opportunity to be the absolute best that we can be!
Kindness – When we open our eyes to the simple acts of kindness all around us, we become encouraged to “pay it forward” and also, be compassionate and generous. It is a “kindness circle” and it can make us happier when we acknowledge other’s good intentions. Remember that it is important to show appreciation for a sweet gesture… A simple “Thank You” goes a long way in brightening someone’s day!
Failure – Let’s all shout a big “Thank You” to failure! As cliche as it sounds, it is by failing that we learn and grow. Failure is a stepping stone to success and it allows us to reflect on how we can improve to increase our chances of killing it when the next opportunity arises.
If we take a moment to look around
and appreciate the “sweet somethings” in our lives,
we will notice that there is ALWAYS SOMETHING
for which we can feel grateful.
